What we can offer

Here at CosyDevon we can offer a number of energy saving products that could save you around £546* a year. To find out if you’re eligible apply today and we’ll get in touch to discuss how we can help you get a warmer and more comfortable home.

What improvements could be made?

External wall did you know

If your home was built before 1920, its external walls are probably solid rather than cavity walls. Without a gap they will let more heat through. Solid walls can be insulated – either from the inside or the outside. This will cost more than insulating a standard cavity wall, but  your home will feel warmer and you could  save up to £270* per year.

Through CosyDevon we can help you fund external wall insulation, which:

  • Can be applied without disruption to the household
  • Doesn’t reduce the floor area of your home
  • Renews the appearance of outer walls
  • Improves weather proofing and sound resistance
  • Fills cracks and gaps in the brickwork, which will help reduce draughts
  • Helps increase the life of your walls by protecting the brickwork
  • Can help reduce condensation on internal walls and can help prevent damp (but won’t solve rising or penetration damp)
  • Is best installed at the same time as external refurbishment work to reduce the cost
  • May need planning permission – check with your local council

If you live in North Devon, Torridge or Teignbridge District Council areas you could qualify for a Pioneer Places grant up to £7000 towards External Wall Insulation, click here to find out more.

The installation of external wall insulation usually takes up to three weeks to install. It requires good access to outer walls and can cause some noise and dust. Scaffolding will also need to be erected to the outside walls. External wall insulation isn’t recommended if the outer walls are structurally unsound and can’t be repaired.

* Saving figure is based on a 3 bed, double glazed, semi-detached house in Devon, with 50mm loft insulation a 86m2 total floor area, age band 1950-66 plus boiler with 68% efficiency with programmer only. Savings are the combined improvements of fully insulating the cavity wall, adding 200mm loft insulation, installing a new condensing combi boiler 89.3 % efficiency (controls left as programmer only) calculated using RDSaP 9.91. Savings depend on a large number of factors and the saving quoted should be treated as a guide.

Cavity wall did you know

Did you know that around a third of all the heat lost in an uninsulated home goes through the walls? Heat will always flow from a warm area to a cold one. In winter, the colder it is outside, the faster heat from your home will escape into the surrounding air. If this is the case then you’re paying good money to heat the outside air, instead of just heating your home!

If your home was built after 1920, the chances are its external walls are made of two layers with a gap or cavity between them. Cavity wall insulation fills that gap, keeping the warmth in. This saves energy as well as helping to reduce condensation inside the house if this is a problem on your external walls. Cavity wall insulation can cost as much as £720* but you can get it for free from CosyDevon. It could save you up to £227* per year so apply today.

How is insulation installed?

To insulate your cavity walls, the installer drills small holes around 22mm in size at intervals of around 1m in the outside wall of your home. With specially designed equipment, they then blow insulation into the cavity. Once all the insulation is in, the installer fills the holes in the brickwork so you’ll barely notice them.

Filling cavity walls is not a job you can do yourself: you’ll need to find a registered installer. Our installers can do the job in around two hours for an average-sized house with easily accessible walls; it should be simple and quick.

Loft did you know

Heat rises, and in an uninsulated home up to a quarter of your heat is lost through the roof. Insulating your loft, attic or flat roof is a simple and effective way to keep in heat and reduce your heating bills. Many lofts are already insulated but could benefit from a top-up.

Insulating your loft can help your home to keep heat in; making it feel warmer and more comfortable plus you could save up to £15o* per year. A loft top up could also save you up to £65 a year.

Boiler did you know

According to the Energy Saving Trust, boilers account for 55% of your energy use. By replacing your old gas boiler with a new high efficiency A-rated condensing boiler you’ll cut your energy bills by as much as £254 per year.

If your boiler is working absolutely fine, there’s no need to replace it. However, you could qualify for funding towards a new Oil or LPG boiler through CosyDevon if:

  • Your boiler is broken or over 5 years old and not working properly
  • You receive benefits like Child Tax Credit, with a weekly household income of £305 or less, State Pension Credit or a combination of other benefits
  • You own your property or are privately renting

We’re not currently accepting new applications for funding towards replacement gas boilers.

If you’re eligible for the scheme, you’ll need to pay a contribution towards the cost of your replacement boiler. E.ON will fund most of the cost of a standard boiler replacement and you’ll need to pay the remainder.

The assessor will let you know how much this will be once they’ve completed the free technical survey, and it’s completely up to you if you still want to go ahead with the installation.
